VOICE & CELLO LESSONS
SONGWRITING COACH

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." (Plato)

My teaching philosophy is that learning music must include the whole person. We all have unique capacities and challenges and grounding music in movement, physicality, technique, games and self expression ultimately brings us joy and freedom.

We Start Where You Are
Whether you want to sing or play an instrument - maybe you're at the very beginning, maybe you're further along and searching for something - we'll work together to see what can happen.

Systematic training
Play and games
Emotional exploration
Experimentation

Music is a reflection of who we are and what we hope to become - and it is magical!

Voice
Our voices can express beauty, sweetness, joy, anger, really as many things as we are human. Together we'll uncover your true voice. My teaching draws from classical vocal training (Swedish Italian, David Jones), Werbeck, Barbara Maier Studio, bodywork (Feldenkreis/yoga), acting (Elizabeth Browning) and experimental sound making (Meredith Monk).  Everyone can sing and regular study will connect you to your breath, allow you to access resonance, tone, range and give you more vocal agility. Studying will also improve your speaking voice. You'll start to gain more vocal stamina and clarity in the way you use your voice at work and in daily life.

Singing is uplifting and can help you expand your very person - and connects you to a magical world.

Cello
If you’ve always wanted to play the cello, I am an experienced teacher who has worked with many beginning students.  If you already play cello or are returning to the instrument, let's start there. The cello is so gorgeous and with consistent study and practice, you will become an agile and expressive player. You'll learn to play solo, or in ensembles and bands. You'll use your body in a healthy way, learn how to listen, read music, master music repertoire and improvise.

Songwriting
If you have the soul of a creator, you may be a songwriter. Writing songs can be done in conjunction with music lessons or can be the primary pursuit if you want to explore songwriting, You don't have to play an instrument. You'll study songs from different genres, learn about song forms, chord progressions, rhythm and lyrics. Songwriting is a little like alchemy - you start with something small, put some ideas  together, wrestle a bit and then suddenly you find yourself in motion. I can be your coach as you manifest your unique songs. And if you already have songs you'd like to refine, I can help you with that and direct you to studios to record them.

A Note on Practise & Performance
Daily or weekly practice will lead to results. A teacher can guide you in your study of music, but the strength of your commitment will lead you from your potential into something incredible. Longer term students will have the opportunity to have a yearly recital.
